How to play
Tekka
Bid your target (8–13) and play a long match to 104 points.
Overview
Tekka is a longer, bid-driven match to 104 points made of many deals. You choose the ruleset before a game starts — offline (on the Home screen, next to the number of players) and online (when creating or joining a game).
- Players: 4 on two teams (Bottom & Top vs Left & Right)
- Deck: Standard 52 cards (Ace high in each suit)
- Match goal: First team to reach 104 points wins the whole match
- Each deal is played with the same Prime and trick rules as Feskot
Bidding (Each Deal)
- Every player is dealt all 13 cards at once and privately sees their full hand.
- Players are asked, one at a time going counter-clockwise, to either pass or name a target of 8–13 tricks. Each new bid must be strictly higher than the current high bid.
- The highest bidder wins the contract: they choose the Prime suit, and their bid becomes the team's target for the deal.
- If everyone passes, the first player asked must choose the Prime suit with a mandatory target of 8.
- Double 13 is the highest bid: a solo pledge to personally win all 13 tricks. It outbids everything and is re-callable — if a later player also calls Double 13, the last caller becomes the high bidder.
- The deal is then played exactly like Feskot (Prime rules, counter-clockwise play). The bid winner leads the first trick.
- Online: the contract holder may tap Bid mid-deal to request a higher target (or a Double 13). An opponent accepts or rejects; if accepted, the contract updates live.
Playing a Trick
Play moves counter-clockwise: Bottom → Right → Top → Left.
- Leading: The player who won the last trick leads the next one. At the start of the game, the first-dealt player (who chose the Prime suit) leads the first trick. The leader may play any card from their hand.
- Following: Each other player must follow suit if they have a card of the suit that was led. If they cannot follow suit, they may play any card — including a Prime card.
- Winning: Prime beats non-Prime. Among Prime cards, the highest rank wins (Ace is highest). If no Prime was played, the highest card of the led suit wins. Cards that are neither Prime nor the led suit cannot win the trick.
- The player who wins the trick earns 1 trick for their team and leads the next trick.
Scoring (Each Deal)
- If the bidding team wins at least their target in tricks, they score their target (e.g. a target of 10 scores 10).
- If the bidding team fails, the opponents score double the target — except a failed mandatory 8, where opponents score only 8.
- Bidding high is risky: a missed target of 13 hands the opponents 26.
- Double 13: if the bidder personally wins all 13 tricks, their team scores 26; if they miss even one, the opponents score 52.
Winning the Match
- Points accumulate across deals. The first team to reach 104 wins the whole match.
- After each deal, the team that did not score in that deal is asked to bid first in the next deal.
- In an online Tekka match, leaving or timing out forfeits it (and the rewards) to the opponents.
Teams and Seats
When you sit at Bottom, your partner is Top. Your opponents are Left and Right.
If multiple humans play on one device (hot-seat), extra human seats are filled clockwise from Bottom:
- Remaining seats are filled by bots. You can assign bots randomly or pick a character for each side.
| Humans | Human seats |
|---|---|
| 1 | Bottom |
| 2 | Bottom, Left |
| 3 | Bottom, Left, Top |
| 4 | All four |
Playing a Card (This App)
On your turn, legal cards are highlighted. To play:
- Press and hold a legal card to select it (only one card is previewed at a time).
- While holding, you can slide to another legal card to change your choice.
- Push the card toward the center (the court) and release to play it.
- If you release without pushing far enough, the card returns to your hand.
Card-Play Signals
No secret talk is allowed, but you may hint to your partner by how you play a card. Signals are turned on with the Allow signals option when a game is created (on by default); online it is chosen by the game creator and applies to everyone.
On your turn, tap Give a signal, pick a signal, then play a card — all four players see the animation.
- Slam: You slam the card down. This tells your partner you'd like them to lead this suit the next time they lead.
- Drop: You drop the card from a few inches up. This tells everyone you have no more cards of that suit.
- Signals are only a hint from how you play — they never change the rules, scoring, or which card wins.
Bots
Bots play by the same rules but do not see hidden hands — only their own cards and what has already been played. Harder bots count cards and play more strategically; easier bots make more mistakes.
Named bots (Easy → Advanced): KADO, POCHAQ, PUCHOQ, SADA, TANA, JANGARA, TANOOR, TIZAB, ZELZELA.
Tips
- Save Prime cards for tricks you can win or must stop opponents from winning.
- When your partner is already winning the trick, play your lowest card instead of wasting a high one.
- Track which high cards of each suit have been played — especially Prime.
